Westland is The Best Land

Westland Museum

On Friday afternoon, while E had to go back to work, the girls and I met up with 2 new friends of ours.  Since we only had a few hours to play, we decided to go the local Westland Museum.  It is small, but very picturesque and interesting.  Westland is the area we live in and it is highly recognized as the main area in The Netherlands for green houses, peppers, tomatoes and flowers.  As a mater of fact, we live directly behind the Royal Floral Auction House where millions of flowers are bought and sold all around the world every day. The picture on the right is a replica of the estate that was located approximately where we live now.

Inside the museum we saw many piece of antique farm equipment, including many devices for planting bulbs and harvesting them.  We also saw a huge trap....which we assumed was for bears or the like, but NO, it was a human trap to prevent people from stealing fruit!  That was quite a serious security system for produce!  We also got to sit in a room that was set up like the auction house, with the old chairs and buzzers to indicate which buyer won the lot that was being auctioned.  In the upper portion, there were many pictures and pieces of furniture that showed how people vacationed and spend their time during the Golden Age in The Netherlands.  After we checked out all the interesting exhibits inside, we decided to go outside and tour their historical gardens.  They had a full garden, with brick walls, wall side green houses, a windmill that brought in water, bunnies and chickens!  What a lovely adventure.  It was a well spend 5.50 Euros for me and the girls were free!    It was informative, interesting and certainly a lot of fun!
